The PBTS celebrated the 50th Anniversary of its Lide-Walker Bible Conference on January   7-9, 2019. The Golden Anniversary commemorated the founding of the conference in honor of the first two presidents of the Seminary–Dr. Frank P. Lide (1952-1963 and Dr. Elbert H. Walker (1954-1965).  It also highlighted all the resource speakers and the various themes and topics of the conference for the past 50 years.  There were 601 registered delegates plus over a hundred local pastors and church workers from our Luzon, Visayas and the Mindanao Conventions who attended the conference.  The evening worship services recorded more or less 600 people.  The theme for this year was “Pastoral Ministry in the Real World,” which was expounded by Dr. James Wilson as the key speaker.  Dr. Wilson is a professor of Leadership Formation and Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program of the Gateway Seminary, Ontario, California, USA.

Simultaneously with this event were the following activities and seminars:

  • Caring for the Elderly by Mrs. Martz Forteza
  • Senior Adults Ministry Seminar by Dr. Lizette F. Knight
  • PBTS Alumni Homecoming was held on January 10, 2019. The speaker was Dr. Todd Hamilton, former missionary and PBTS professor from Texas, U.S.A.  There were about 90 alumni who have gathered and attended the alumni banquet.
  • Seminary Education by Extension Summit on January 11, 2019. The summit focused on the topic, “Keeping Spiritual Formation at the Frontier of Theological Educators” by Dr. Paul Kelly also from Gateway Seminary, Ontario, California. The summit aimed to strengthen the academic policies and standards of the Extension Education program and review of the S.E.E. Operational Handbook. Also a Facilitators’ Forum was held afterwards.  This was also the time for the SEE centers and facilitators to renew their Memorandum of Agreement with the Resident Seminary.  It was recently approved that the MOA would be valid for two years now.

          As reported in the December 2018 issue, the seminary offered two modular courses from January 14 to 18, 2019 taught by our visiting professors from the U.S.

The students in the Supervised Ministry Program who went on Internship during the Summer break were given opportunity to share their testimony and field experiences during the chapel services.  From January until March, the Music students who were candidates for graduation performed their recital in Voice, Conducting, and Piano and in other musical instruments.

The 62nd Seminary graduation was held last March 8, 2019.  Commencement Speaker Dr. Jonathan Exiomo challenged the candidates with his message:  “What Is Your Worth?” There were 105 students who received their graduation diploma in their respective degree.

This graduation ceremony also marked the first graduates of our Master in Contextual Ministry degree, 13 total graduates.  In conjunction to the PBTS graduation, was the recognition of the three candidates for the Master of Theology Degree of the Asia Baptist Graduate Theological Seminary.  Those who have completed their degree are:

  • Brang Di Aung, ThM – Myanmar
  • Medozhanou Tepa, ThM – India
  • Yin Htang Lat Sar, ThM – Myanmar

The graduation ceremony was preceded by a two-day annual meeting of the Board of Trustees last March 6 to 7, 2019 and the graduation banquet for the candidates on March 7, 2019.  Mrs. Rubi Elena Garcia, PBTS alumna and Outstanding Branch Manager of the Sunlife Canada, Philippines was the speaker.  Her message to the graduating class of 2019 was “Staying Focus.”

Also it is normal that as the semester closes, the Student Body elects their new Student Council Officers.  The following officers will serve for the School Year 2019-2020.

  2. 72-beds dormitory

  5. Wisdom and guidance for the leadership of the Seminary
  6. Students as they return to their ministry places.
