IN FULFILLING ITS PURPOSE, THE ESL DEPARTMENT SEEKS TO...

  • Provide English language acquisition through guided vocabulary building, oral and silent reading comprehension.
  • Enhance learner's listening comprehension, practical English communication skills through speech drills and phonetics.
  • Improve composition writing and other grammar structures in English.
  • Prepare both local and foreign students attain the desired grade to enter and work toward a degree program in the Seminary through the English Proficiency review program.
  • Evangelize God's words through Bible verse memorization, Christian-friendly, audio-visual enhancement exercises and multi-level class exposures.
  • Help learners master the basic language and life skills needed to succeed by properly assigning them according to levels (1 to 6). 
  • Help learners have the confidence to use the English language in real life settings through dialogue exercises, field and educational trips.

  • Foreign Nationals in high school and college.
  • Foreign and local pastors and wives.
  • Missionary husbands and wives.
  • Local nationals willing to improve their English abilities.
  • Prospective or current PBTS students wanting to pass the English Proficiency Test.

Regular ESL Class-comes in six levels and covers all macro skills including vocabulary and structures. (Priority)

  • Level 1-True Beginner
  • Level 2-High Beginner
  • Level 3-Low Intermediate
  • Level 4-High Intermediate
  • Level 5-Advance
  • Level 6-Proficiency Plus
  • Special ESL Class-MTELP review class (Priority)
  • Speech Class (especially intended for levels 1-4)
  • ESL tutorial (Not a priority class. Usually as supplement for regular ESL classes. Or upon arrangement, for students who wish to improve on one English skill only.)

  • The ESL department follows the academic schedule of PBTS, and so classes are conducted per term.
  • Students are required to attend an 8-week study program. ESL follows the term period set by PBTS. Per request, classes may be held during breaks like winter and summer vacations. Minimum of 1 month enrollment is required.
  • Students have to submit all pertinent documents (health certificate, enrollment form, two 1" x 1" pictures) and settle financial obligations prior to start of class. Such forms may be acquired from the ESL Office.
  • Subject to availability of housing, students stay in the dormitory. In such case, students must enroll 2 ESL sessions and at least 4 units of seminary classes.
  • All teachers are TESOL certified to ensure high standard of learning and teaching.
